John Robert married Malissa Jane Agee in 1880 after the death of his first wife, Missouri A. Gregg. John and Malissa lived in Buffalo, MO where he was known as J. B. "Bob" Hoobler & Sons, proprietors of Midway Nursery and Fruit Farm. The land in Dallas County, Buffalo, MO had been bought with a Swampland Grant 1903 for $50.00. In 1908 he traded his 100 acres for a farm of 160 acres in Hooker, Texas County, OK. The land in Texas County, Hooker, OK was homesteaded. His letter about his move states "I got a fine piece of land. Land with good small house and fine well of good soft water with wind pump with 120 acres of cultivation and got $1000 to boot. My farm is just 9 miles from the railroad and good town and the finest roads I ever saw to travel over." He also states in his letter "I am going to take a load of my things. Will cost about $65. Will take 4 horses and our best household goods and my wagon and buggy. I traded some things with the man. Got a cow and a lot of chickens and sows, table and chairs and a lot of other things. I will also take a frame house with me." John and Malissa are buried in Hooker, OK.
