   Morris Vinnedge Hoobler was born Sept. 14, 1918, at Canadian, Texas, and was a resident of Salina for 38 years. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. Morris was a coach at Merna, Nebraska after finishing college. The law bug bite him and it was of to school again to get a law degree. He served as County Judge and District Attorney in Custer County before heading to Salina, Kansas. He had served as Salina police judge, was an instructor of business law at Brown-Mackie, a licensed abstractor and worked in general and corporate law practice for 20 years when he was appointed district judge in 1967. He served in that position for 17 years, retiring in 1984. Judge Morris Hoobler, 77, Salina, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 1995, at Salina Regional Health Center.

    He was a member of the American, Kansas and local Bar associations, American Judicature Society, Judicial Administration Section of the American Bar Association and was listed in "Who’s Who" in the Midwest. He was a member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge and American Legion.

    Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Train of Salina; a brother, Ford of Broken Bow, Neb.; two sisters, Conda Duryea of Alliance, Neb., and Phyllis Billard of Lincoln, Neb.; a grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

    A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Geisendorf-Rush Smith Funeral Home, 401 W. Iron Ave., Salina 67401, and the Rev. Willys Neustrom officiating. Private interment will be in Christ Cathedral Columbarium.

    Jane C. Hoobler, 73, died Thursday, Feb. 18, at Asbury Salina Regional Medical Center.

    Mrs. Hoobler was born Dec. 16, 1914, in Morrill, Neb. She had lived in Salina since 1957, moving from Broken Bow, Neb. She had been director of printing at Kansas Wesleyan University until her retirement and had also worked at the Salina Blueprint. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation.

    Survivors include her husband, Morris V. of the home; a daughter, Shirley Train of Salina; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. There will be a private memorial service.
